Why can’t I just use the same mirror forever?

You can, but you’ll lose access when that mirror goes down. TorZon rotates to stay reachable. If you only bookmark one address, you’re betting it won’t be the one that gets DDoS’d or blocked.

The market’s own canary page recommends using at least three mirrors. That way, if one fails, you have backups.

What happens if I land on an old mirror?

16-character .onion addresses are version 3 (v3) onions. They’re more secure than the older 16-character v2 addresses because they use stronger cryptography and are harder to brute-force.

The Tor Project documents v3 onions as the current standard. TorZon switched to v3 in early 2023.
